URGENT: Joint US-Iraq operation begins to retake Mosul Dam

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) An informed sources revealed on Saturday for the start of a joint US-Iraq military operation to restore the strategic position of Mosul Dam, while confirming that American fighter jets bombed some sites of the organization of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant near the dam.

The sources said in remarks reported by the network CNN and followed by IraqiNews.com, that” US-Iraqi military operation was launched, at dawn today, to restore the strategic position of Mosul Dam,” asserting that “fighter jets bombed some locations of ISIL near the dam” .

CNN added that “The operation includes the provision of an air cover by American aircrafts for the Iraqi Kurdish ground forces, which try to restore the dam.”

The militants of ISIL dominated the Mosul Dam on Thursday (August 7, 2014), after the withdrawal of the Peshmerga forces without fighting.
