U.S. army denies Basra airport came under Katyusha attacks

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: No Katyusha rockets landed on the Basra International Airport on Monday, a U.S. army official source said on Tuesday. “Military drills had taken place yesterday (Oct. 12) inside Basra International Airport and no Katyusha rockets landed on the facility,” the source told IraqiNews.com news agency. Airport staff on Monday had told IraqiNews.com that an indirect fire attack occurred in the airport and said it was most probably with Katyusha rockets that targeted the facility at 09:00 p.m. The U.S. forces replaced British troops at the Basra International Airport this year’s spring. Ever since, the U.S. forces came under indirect fire attacks that claimed the lives of four U.S. soldiers and wounded others. The oil-rich port city of Basra lies 590 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. AmR (P) 1
