 Ministers’ Council changes South Oil Company’s name, establishes Thi Qar Company

(IraqiNews.com) Baghdad – On Tuesday, office of the Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi announced, that the Council of Ministers has agreed to change the name of the South Oil Company, while approved the establishment of Thi Qar Oil Company.

The office said in a statement received by IraqiNews.com, “The Council of Ministers agreed to change the name of the South Oil Company to Basra Oil Company,” adding that, “The Council also agreed to establish Thi Qar Oil Company.”

Noteworthy, South Oil Company is the largest public company in Iraq, where at least 20 thousand employees are working. The company was founded in 1969, while many of its facilities and warehouses were destructed during the Iran-Iraq war (1980-1988).
