Ki-moon expresses his surprise at victories achieved by Iraqi security forces
(IraqiNews.com) Baghdad – On Saturday, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon expressed his surprise at the victories achieved by the Iraqi security forces, while offered his condolences to the families of al-Iskandariya Stadium bombing’s victims. Ki-moon also called the international and regional partners to provide support and assistance to Iraq in its war against terrorism.
Ban Ki-moon said during a joint press conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, World Bank President Jim Yong Kim and the President of the Islamic Development Bank Ahmed Mohammed Ali in Baghdad and followed by IraqiNews.com, “It was a pleasure to visit Baghdad for the eighth time as Secretary-General of the United Nations,” indicating that, “In the past ten years, I have seen Iraqis endure very difficult times, and throughout these ten years, I have witnessed firsthand the indomitable spirit and resilience of the Iraqi people.”
Ki-moon added, “The bravery of the Iraqi security forces, Peshmerga, al-Hashd al-Shaabi Forces and tribal fighters is admirable, and ISIS is losing its appeal to Iraq’s communities,” pointing out that, “Many Iraqis, both combatants and civilians, have made great sacrifices and suffered tragic losses to reach this point, I express my sincere condolences to their families, friends and colleagues.”
