(IraqiNews.com) Erbil – On Tuesday the United States Department of Defense (Pentagon) announced the killing of an American soldier in northern Iraq.

Today, U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter said in a press statement in Germany followed by IraqiNews.com, “An American soldier was killed in northern Iraq,” adding that, “It is a combat death, of course, and a very sad loss. I don’t know all the circumstances of it.”

“The combat death near Erbil was the result of enemy fire,” Defense Secretary Ash Carter continued.

Meanwhile, American military official said, “The man was killed ‘by direct fire’ from Islamic State.”
