U.S. embassy says security breaches will not hinder agreement

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The recent security violations that occurred in the capital Baghdad and other Iraqi provinces will not obstruct the implementation of the strategic framework agreement signed with the United States, an official spokesperson for the U.S. embassy in Baghdad said on Monday. “A security vacuum was behind those powerful bombings that have recently struck Baghdad. Such incidents will never stop the implementation of the strategic framework agreement as part of the troop withdrawal agreement between the governments of Iraq and the United States,” the spokesperson told Iraqi News. On Sept. 19, six explosions ripped through government buildings in the Iraqi capital, leaving 82 dead and 1,203 wounded persons, according to official figures . The Iraqi government has summoned its ambassador from Syria and urged the Syrian government to hand over Baathist leaders, whom it said are behind the blasts . “We still have faith in the ability of Iraqi forces to maintain order in the country,” he added. Upon the request of the Iraqi government, U.S. forces have provided medical, intelligence and logistic support to Iraqi forces in the aftermath of the blasts, he added. SS (S) 1
