Ninewa governor urges UNHCR to resolve issue of displaced persons

NINEWA / IraqiNews.com: The governor of Ninewa has urged the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to work out the problem of internally displaced persons in the province. This came during his meeting with the head of the UNHCR office in Arbil City, Charles Lynch. “There are a large number of displaced persons from Mosul and tens of thousands from Talafar and other areas along the Kurdistan region,” Governor Athil al-Nujaifi said. “The UNHCR should cooperate with active and prominent organizations (in this regard),” the governor noted. A few days ago, an under-secretary of state from the Ministry of Displacement and Migration said that there is an estimated 30,000 displaced persons from Ninewa province. Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 north of Baghdad. SS (P)/SR 1
