ISIS uses mustard agent to attack American and Iraqi troops in Iraq, confirms Pentagon
(IraqiNews.com) Baghdad – A security source in Baghdad informed Iraqi News on Thursday that ISIS attacked a military base in northern Iraq using a shell that may have contained a ‘chemical agent. The base is home to both the American and Iraqi troops.
“ISIS on Tuesday shelled a military base in northern Iraq that may have contained a chemical agent. The shell did not explode and no American or Iraqi troops were injured in the attack,” the source said quoting a military official.
“While the unexploded shell initially tested positive for a mustard agent, a second test was negative. Additional tests were ordered and accordingly tests were carried out which tested positive for a powdered mustard agent on Thursday,” added the source quoting a statement released by the Pentagon.
Quoting Pentagon spokesman Jeff Davis, the source informed Iraqi News, “It was mustard agent in a powderized form – the same thing we have seen ISIS use to little effect many times in the past in both Syria and Iraq.”
