Sadrist MP urges Iraqis to participate in preliminary elections
BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: A legislator from the Sadrist bloc, or Iraqi members of parliament loyal to Shiite leader Muqtada al-Sadr, urged the Iraqi people on Sunday to participate in the preliminary elections preceding the legislative elections to select the bloc candidates. “The Sadrist bloc has started since Saturday (Oct. 3) steps to hold preliminary elections to pick the best and most efficient candidates to run in the upcoming parliamentary elections on the United Iraqi Alliance (UIA) list,” Maha al-Dori, a member of the seven-person committee supervising the legislative elections, told Iraqi News. Parliamentary elections in Iraq are scheduled to be held early next year. Dori pointed out that the door is “open before all groups of the Iraqi people to run in the coming elections”. She noted that any Iraqi person who exceeded the age of 15 is entitled to cast their votes in the preliminary elections, due to be held on October 16″. AmR (P) 1
