Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Anbar Operations Command announced on Thursday dismantling 40 improvised explosive devices, in addition to seizing large quantities of weapons and equipment in the area of al-Tharthar basin, in northern Ramadi.

Commander of Anbar Operations, Ismail al-Mahalawi, said in a press statement, “Security forces, based on accurate intelligence information, carried out search operations in the areas of al-Tharthar basin, in northern Ramadi.”

“The operations resulted in dismantling 40 explosive devices in different areas, as well as confiscating large quantities of weapons and equipment, including missiles and detonators,” Mahalawi explained.

“Tharthar Lake and surrounding areas were prominent strongholds of the Islamic State in the province,” Mahalawi said.

“Security forces continue searching and securing the areas of Tharthar basin to prevent the terrorists from returning back to the liberated areas,” Mahalawi further added.

Iraqi security forces managed to liberate the majority of cities of Anbar Province from the Islamic state’s control in early 2016, and prepared these areas for the return of thousands of displaced families.
