Iraqi joint forces foil IS attack on Azim City
Diyala (IraqiNews.com) Head of al-Azim City in Diyala Province, Abdel Jabbar al-Obeidi, announced on Sunday that the joint security forces and al-Hashd al-Ashaeri managed to foil an attack launched by the Islamic State on the city.
Obeidi said in a press statement, “The Islamic State group launched an attack, yesterday, on Albu Najim village, west of al-Azim,” pointing out that, “Security forces from the army and al-Hashd al-Ashaeri managed to foil the attack and inflicted heavy losses on the terrorist group.”
“The Islamic State’s members couldn’t fight back the security forces. Security forces chased the Islamic State’s members out of the city,” Obeidi explained.
Yesterday, Islamic State group attacked a security checkpoint north of Khalis District, using a booby-trapped vehicle, leaving 7 casualties.
