Checkpoint blast leaves woman dead
KARBALA / IraqiNews.com: One woman on Sunday was killed and 13 people were wounded in the blast that targeted a checkpoint in downtown Karbala earlier today, a local medic said. “The blast left one woman killed and 13 persons wounded, according to an initial count,” the medic told IraqiNews.com news agency. Earlier today, a police source said that a sticky improvised explosive device (IED) detonated inside a vehicle near a checkpoint close to the Civil Defense Department (1 km away from the Imam Hussein Mosque). The blast was the second of its kind in one week. On Oct. 26, a Kia-modeled vehicle detonated near a checkpoint in northern Karbala, killing three persons, including a woman and a cop, and wounding eight others, including children.
