IAI member arrested near Kirkuk

KIRKUK / IraqiNews.com: Police forces on Saturday arrested a member of the Islamic Army in Iraq’s (IAI) legislative board in southwestern Kirkuk, according to a local police chief. “This afternoon, a police force from Huweija arrested Mohammed Naseef Huweesh, who is wanted by the Criminal Investigations Department in Kirkuk in accordance with Article IV of the Terrorism Law,” Brig. Sarhad Qadir told IraqiNews.com news agency. Huweesh has been involved in several attacks and assassinations that targeted Iraqi security forces and the Multi-National Force (MNF) in Kirkuk, the source pointed out. The Islamic Army in Iraq is one of a number of underground Baathist and Islamist militant organizations formed in Iraq following the 2003 invasion of Iraq by United States and coalition military forces, and the subsequent collapse of the Baathist government headed by Saddam Hussein. Kirkuk, an oil-rich and mixed city of Kurds, Turkmen, Christians and Arabs, lies 250 km northeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. SS (P)/SR 1
