Police chief survives attempt on life

KIRKUK / IraqiNews.com: The police chief in Rahimawa has escaped an assassination attempt in southern Kirkuk, a deputy police director in the city said on Sunday. “This morning, Col. Adnan Khayro, the director of the Rahimawa police station, survived an assassination attempt when an improvised explosive device (IED) hit his vehicle in Wahed Athar neighborhood, southern Kirkuk,” Col. Ghazi Ali told IraqiNews.com news agency. The attack caused damage to the vehicle as well as a civilian vehicle, which was close to the scene of the blast, the source indicated. This was the second attempt on his life in less than three weeks. On November  5, an explosive charge hit his vehicle under al-Rabie Bridge, southern Kirkuk. Kirkuk, an oil-rich and mixed city of Kurds, Turkmen, Christians and Arabs, lies 250 km north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. SS (P) 1
