Fadhila party calls on Maliki to include Iraq’s water share in agreement with Turkey

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Islamic Fadhila party called on Iraq’s Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki Wednesday to include a clause in the economic and commercial agreement with Turkey to guarantee Iraq’s water share from the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. Speaking at a press conference at the parliament, MP from the Fadhila party, Karim al-Yaaqoubi, said “we call on al-Maliki to put a clause in the economic and commercial agreement, which will be signed on Thursday (Oct. 15) with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, to guarantee Iraq’s water share from the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.” “The parliament will not approve the agreement in case this clause does not exist,” he underlined. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will pay a visit to Iraq to meet with Iraqi President Jalal Talabani and his Iraqi counterpart, Nouri al-Maliki.
