Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) Number of civilians displaced from Nineveh province since 2016 has reached 819,000, while number of those displaced from Hawija and eastern Shirqat reached 64,000, the Iraqi Ministry of Migration and Displacement announced.

The figures were disclosed by Migration and Displacement Minister Jassem al-Jaff during a press conference on Monday upon the periodic meeting of the supreme committee of the displaced.

Number of the displaced since launch of offensives in western Mosul reached 642,000 civilians, 350 of whom were housed in eastern Mosul, while 300 civilians were sheltered at camps in south and east of Nineveh.

Necessary assistance as well as basic needs were offered to the displaced by the ministry in coordination with authorities in question, Jaff said.

Ninety percent of the regions in western Mosul are fully liberated, he said indicating huge efforts needed by ministries in question as well as the United Nations to restore stability there ahead of repatriation of the displaced. He mentioned that the delay in repatriation of the people at the liberated regions will negatively affect lives in camps.

According to governmental figures, more than four million citizens were displaced due to the war against Islamic State militants in Iraq since January 2014, according to Iraqi government figures.
