IS mufti’s wife set herself, children, on fire, west of Mosul
Tal Afar (IraqiNews.com) The wife of Islamic State’s mufti in Tal Afar town has committed suicide along with her three children, a local source from Nineveh said.
“Wife of IS mufti in Tal Afar, located west of Mosul, has set herself, along with her three children, alight at her house, according to the available information,” the source told AlSumaria News on Saturday.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, the source added, “the reasons behind the suicide are still mysterious.”
Earlier this month, news reports mentioned that the IS mufti in Tal Afar urged the militants to immigrate to either Egypt or Palestine.
Iraqi Defense Ministry said last week that a date has been set for the town invasion, however, it will not be declared to maintain the secrecy of the intended operations.
During a weekly press briefing on Tuesday, Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi said a special plan has been drawn to invade Tal Afar.
Col. Ryan Dillon, spokesperson of the U.S.-led coalition against IS, was previously quoted as saying that Tal Afar will be the next target of operations after victory was declared in Mosul.
Tal Afar is one of the important strongholds still held by IS in Nineveh since August 2014.
