Peshmerga officer shot dead in Kirkuk

“A Peshmerga colonel was killed on Sunday evening after being shot in Tareeq Baghdad district in central Kirkuk,” the source told AlSumaria News on Monday. “The victim was shot in the head and chest.”
Security troops, according to the source, who preferred anonymity, “arrived at the accident spot and conducted investigations before taking the victim to forensic medicine department.
The source said the accident is likely to be a criminal not terrorist one according to preliminary investigations.
On Sunday, news reports said four Peshmerga fighters were killed and injured in a bomb blast that took place in south of Kirkuk.
Pivotal regions that link between each of Diyala, Salahuddin and Kirkuk are still held by the Islamic State posing threats to the liberated regions.
Violence in the country has surged further with the emergence of Islamic State Sunni extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.
More than 700 Iraqis were killed and wounded during the month of June as result of violence and armed conflicts, according to a monthly count by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) which excludes security members deaths. Baghdad ranked the second place with 22 deaths and 88 injuries.
