Parl. starts session, no election law on agenda

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Iraqi parliament on Saturday started a session to vote on several draft laws on its agenda, not including the election law, an apple of discord between the Kurdistan Alliance bloc on one hand and the Arab and Turkmen blocs on the other. “The agenda of today’s session included voting on the draft to protect consumers, the first reading of a draft on the information and communications organization and the first reading of a draft on Iraq’s accession to the agreement to founding an international Islamic trade finance organization,” according to the agenda as received by IraqiNews.com news agency. Earlier, parliamentary sources said that a decisive session will be held on Saturday to vote over the parliamentary election law, delayed over differences among legislators on the status of the disputed oil-rich province of Kirkuk. Today’s session will be convened after an agreement was reached on Thursday on a new proposal that was the outcome of several ones by the UN, the Sunni Iraqi Accord Front (IAF), the Shiite United Iraqi Alliance (UIA) and Arab and Turkmen representatives of Kirkuk, the sources added.
