Iraq’s future economic, social policy discussed- spokesperson

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: A Baghdad-based meeting on a new partnership between Iraq and the international community has tackled the country’s future social and economic policy, an official spokesperson for the Iraqi government said on Saturday. “Iraq’s social and economic policy over the coming years, which are derived from the priorities set out in the International Covenant with Iraq, have been discussed…,” Ali al-Dabbagh told IraqiNews.com news agency. “It has been agreed that the International Covenant with Iraq was a crucial tool to provide international support for the Iraqi people at a stage of political transmission and economic reconstruction,” Dabbagh pointed out. “This new partnership will be directed to enhance the development process and the complete normalization of Iraq’s status in the international community,” he added. On May 3, 2007, Iraq signed the International Covenant for Iraq during a conference hosted by the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm al-Sheikh. Representatives of more than 60 countries vowed to help Iraq rebuild its economy and find workable solutions to its security and political problems. SS (P)SR 1
