Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Over 500 Iraqis were killed and injured as result of violence and armed conflicts that occurred during the month of September, according to the monthly count released on Sunday by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq.

“The number of civilians killed in September (not including police) was 196, while the number of injured (not including police) was 381. The fatalities included 10 foreign nationals,” UNAMI said in its report.

The most affected province, according to UNAMI, was Baghdad with 194 civilian casualties (37 killed and 157 wounded). Dhi Qar province came in the second place with 82 killed and 93 injured. Anbar came in the third place with 20 killed and 46 injured.

“In a single attack on 14 September, Daesh terrorists managed to kill or injure close to 200 civilians, including foreign pilgrims, at Nasiriya in Dhi Qar Governorate in the south. This only proves that the terrorist Daesh remains a potent force, if not resolutely countered throughout the whole country as a matter of priority, without any distractions that divert attention elsewhere,” the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) for Iraq Ján Kubiš said.

The total figure of September’s casualties marked an increase from the figure in August, which reached 297 Iraqis dead and wounded. Baghdad was also on top of the worst affected provinces.
