Key AQI member arrested in Salah al-Din

SALAH AL-DIN / IraqiNews.com: A combined force arrested a prominent aide of the Al-Qaeda in Iraq (AQI) network leader and the mastermind behind many armed attacks in Salah al-Din, Diala and Baghdad, a security source in Tikrit said on Sunday. “Accurate information by the National Security Center in Tikrit helped combined U.S.-Iraqi forces arrest Khaled Habib Hamdi al-Juburi in an area north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad,” the source, who preferred not to have his name mentioned, told IraqiNews.com news agency. “Intelligence agencies tracked Juburi’s cell phone and arrested him in a landing operation that took place two days ago,” he added. The source said that delayed announcement of the arrest was to verification of his real identity as he carries several fake IDs. Juburi, a man in his mid-30s and a local resident of Balad district, Salah al-Din, is one of the top leaders of the AQI in Salah al-Din province. He had been announced dead or captured more than once by security forces. He is facing charges of involvement in several armed operations and attacking U.S. and Iraqi forces.
