Calls to combat desertification, recycle solid waste

SULAIMANIYA / IraqiNews.com: A geological researcher has called on the government and citizens to fulfill their responsibility to curb desertification and recycle solid waste. This came during the third session of an environment conference for Iraqi university students, held at Sulaimaniya University. During his speech at the conference, the director of the Desert Studies Center in Anbar University, Dr. Abd Saleh Fayyad, called for establishing dams to collect rain water and to dig more wells and encourage investments in desert areas. The director urged concerned authorities in the Ministry of Agriculture and the local governments to create nature reserves, which he said would help prevent the extinction of wildlife. SS (P)/SR 1
