Two Islamic State suicide bombers killed in Salahuddin military operation

Salajuddin (Iraqinews.com) – Two Islamic State suicide bombers were killed Sunday in a military operation in Samarra city, Salahuddin, the Military Intelligence Directorate was quoted as saying.
“Military intelligence officers, in cooperation with the Samarra Operations Command and the Popular Mobilization Forces’ 313th brigade, killed two suicide members of Islamic State during a military operation in Samarra city,” the directorate said in a statement, a copy of which was obtained by Mawazin News.
“The troops also destroyed four Islamic State hotbeds and dismantled a number of explosive devices during the clampdown,” the statement read. “Five kilograms of ammonium nitrate, a substance used for making bombs, were also seized.”
“The military operation was launched upon directives by the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces to continue pursuing and eliminating Islamic State remnants throughout the country,” the statement read.
Iraq declared the collapse of Islamic State’s territorial influence earlier in November with the recapture of Rawa, a city on Anbar’s western borders with Syria, which was the group’s last bastion in Iraq.
IS declared a self-styled “caliphate” in a third of Iraq and neighboring Syria in 2014. A government campaign, backed by a U.S.-led international coalition and Popular Mobilization Forces, was launched in 2016 to retake IS-held regions, managing to retake all havens, most notably the city of Mosul, the group’s previously proclaimed capital.
