Iraq reconstruction conference kicks off in Kuwait with large participation

Baghdad (Iraqinews.com) – The Kuwait International Conference for the Reconstruction of Iraq kicked off Monday with the participation of several donor countries and a group of regional and international institutions.
The gathering aims at garnering necessary support for the reconstruction of Iraq following a great victory achieved over Islamic State group, according to the Saudi-funded London-based Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper.
The three-day conference is co-chaired by the European Union, Iraq, Kuwait, the United Nations and the World Bank.
The event reflects the international community’s commitment to maintaining Iraq’s stability and reconstructing areas devastated by the anti-terror war, the paper highlighted.
On Sunday, Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah said the conference aims mainly to stress the international community’s support for Iraq during the war against terrorism and to contribute to its reconstruction.
“Iraq is a resource rich country and it needs the support of its brothers, friends and the international community to help through investment projects, financing Iraqi government reviewed projects and its economic development,” the FM told a press conference held on the sidelines of the inauguration of the media center.
The minister highlighted that the international community is fully aware of the capabilities and potential of Iraq, pointing out that Iraq needs the support of the international community to strengthen its security and stability.
On Kuwait’s role in persuading companies to invest in Iraq, the minister replied that Kuwait is facing great pressure from companies to give them an opportunity to participate in this conference.
