2 die of swine flu in Basra

BASRA / IraqiNews.com: Two persons have died of Influenza A H1N1 virus in Basra, while nine other confirmed cases have been reported in the province, a professor at Basra’s Faculty of Medicine said on Wednesday. “The number of suspected cases of swine flu in Basra has reached 60, including a pregnant woman,” Dr. Qays al-Jazairi said today during a symposium organized by the university’s cultural centre. “Most of the cases have been reported among those suffering from sickle cell anemia, diabetes, kidney diseases, or cancer, and among children under two years of age,” Jazairi pointed out. The Shiite province of Basra lies 590 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. SS (P)/SR 1
