Three Iraqi soldiers wounded in Islamic State attack at borders with Syria
Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Three Iraqi soldiers were wounded on Thursday repelling an attack by Islamic State militants on the borders with Syria, a frontier guards source was quoted saying.
Alsumaria News quoted the source saying that “an attack by Daesh (Islamic State) from Syria on border guards on the borderline with Syria”. He added that “the foilin g of the attack caused material and human losses among Daesh, as well as the injury of three border guards personnel 460 Km west of Ramadi”.
Iraq declared the recapture of territories occupied by IS militants in December, and claimed full control over the borders with Syria, but occasional attacks by the group on civilians and security forces have recently prompted the government to carry out strikes on IS locations inside Syria.
U.S.-backed Syrian Kurdish troops, and Russian-backed Syrian government forces have recaptured the extremists’ main bases in Syria, and remnant militant groups there have been evacuated from their latest bastions as part of agreements with Syrian forces sponsored by Russia.
