Six Islamic State members killed in airstrike by Iraqi army, west of Anbar

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Six Islamic State members were killed in an airstrike that targeted a haven for the militant group, west of Anbar province, a security source was quoted saying on Sunday.

“Army jets targeted an Islamic State haven in Wadi al-Mahrouk region, north of Rawa city, west of Ramadi. Six militants were killed,” the source told Almaalomah website.

The shelling, according to the source, “destroyed a rest house and several vehicles.” He also added that the “airstrikes against the group’s havens across the western region will not stop.”
Anbar provincial council had previously indicated infiltration by militants from Syria toward western Anbar regions without being targeted by U.S. jets.

Iraq had previously announced launching airstrikes against IS locations in Syria. This came after Abadi said security troops will follow IS militants in the whole region, not only in Iraq.
In April, Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi denied intentions to intervene within Syrian affairs, saying airstrikes against Islamic State will continue.

The Iraqi-Syrian borders are under the control of joint troops of military and border guards.

Islamic State continues to launch sporadic attacks across Iraq against troops. Security reports indicate that the militant group still poses threat against stability in the country.
