Baghdad (Iraqinews.com) – An Iraqi civilian was killed Monday in a terrorist attack in northern Baghdad, the latest in a series of terrorist attacks that target Iraqi civilians and security forces on almost a daily basis, a security source was quoted as saying.

“A sticky bomb fixed into a car went off in al-Tarmia district in northern Baghdad, leaving the car’s driver killed,” the source told Alghad Press.

The body was carried to the forensic medicine department, while security forces opened a probe into the incident, the source added.

Iraq has seen almost daily bombings and armed attacks against security members, paramilitary troops and civilians since the Iraqi government launched a wide-scale campaign to retake Islamic State-occupied areas in 2016. Though most of the daily bombings go without a claim of responsibility, Islamic State is believed to be behind many.

A total of 68 Iraqis were killed and another 122 injured in acts of terrorism, violence and armed conflict in Iraq in April, according to casualty figures recorded by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).

Anbar was the worst affected Governorate, with 53 civilian casualties (24 killed, 29 injured), followed by Baghdad with 8 killed and 30 injured, and Kirkuk with 10 killed and 21 injured.
