Syrian Democratic Forces establish watchtowers along Iraqi borders

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said troops established, over the past few days, joint watchtowers, along with Iraqi troops on borders with Iraq in Deir az-Zour eastern side, Qassioun website reported on Tuesday.

Media sources from SDF, according to the report, posted photos showing the arrangements to establish those sites as well as the borders.

“The cooperation comes after the Kurdish troops recaptured Bagouza region, in collaboration with Iraqi troops as well as the U.S.-led Coalition, while Islamic State retreated toward Shafia and Hageen region in Euphrates River basin, east of Deir az-Zour.

The Iraqi-Syrian borders are under the control of joint troops of military and border guards.

Islamic State continues to launch sporadic attacks across Iraq against troops. Security reports indicate that the militant group still poses threat against stability in the country.

Thousands of IS militants as well as Iraqi civilians were killed since the government campaign, backed by paramilitary troops and the coalition was launched in October 2016 to fight the militant group, which declared a self-styled “caliphate” from Mosul in June 2014.
