Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State has announced the death of one of the supreme leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’s sons in Syria, the group’s news agency said on Wednesday.

The group’s media arm, Amaq news agency posted on Telegram a photo for Baghdadi’s son named Huthaifa al-Badri wearing Afghan uniform and holding a kalachnikov. The group mourned the son saying that he was killed during fighting in Syria’s Homs.

According to sources, Baghdadi has four sons from one wife and a son from another wife.

On Monday, the London-based Al-Quds Al-Arabi newspaper quoted a source as saying that Baghdadi likely returned back to Iraq coming from Syria, in the wake of heated battles in Syria as the group lost most of the cities it was controlling.

The Russian agency Sputnik quoted, in January, several experts in Islamist groups affairs as saying that Baghdadi is likely to be in Africa, being the safest place at the meantime for the militant group.

It was from that mosque when The group’s supreme leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi made his first appearance in a video making the sermon proclaiming the establishment of an Islamist “caliphate” in the Old City’s Grand Nuri Mosque in June 2014, and never showed up again.
