Three guards killed, wounded in IS attack on oil pipeline in Baqubah
Diyala (Iraqinews.com) – Three Iraqi guards were killed and wounded Saturday after a group of suspected Islamic State terrorists attacked an oil pipeline in Diyala.
“A security man guarding an oil pipeline in Soussa, 50 km west of Baqubah, was killed and three others were wounded in an attack by a group of IS suspects,” Alsumaria News TV channel quoted a security source as saying.
The source gave no further details about the attack.
Earlier in the day, an Iraqi civilian was reportedly wounded after a bomb exploded in an agricultural land in Baqubah.
A total of 76 people were killed and 129 others were injured due to acts of terrorism, violence and armed conflicts during the month of June, the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) said in its monthly statement on the number of casualties in Iraq.
“The figures include ordinary citizens and others considered civilian at the time of death or injury, such as police in non-combat functions, civil defence, personal security teams, facilities protection police and fire department personnel,” the statement said.
Diyala was the worst affected Governorate, according to the report, with 52 civilian casualties (16 killed, 36 injured), then came Kirkuk (10 killed, 36 injured) then Baghdad (19 killed and 18 injured). Anbar suffered a total of 7 civilian casualties (none killed, 7 injured).
