Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Four soldiers were killed and injured as a bomb explosion targeted a military patrol, west of Anbar, a police source was quoted saying on Monday.

Speaking to BasNews, the source said, “a bomb, placed on the side of a road at the main entrance of Rutba, west of Anbar, targeted a military patrol, leaving two soldiers killed and two others wounded.”

Security troops, according to the source, who preferred anonymity, “headed to the accident spot and combed the region in search for other bomb blasts.”

On Sunday, an Iraqi officer, two soldiers were killed as a bomb targeted their convoy in al-Nakheeb region in Anbar.

A civilian was killed, on Saturday, while another was injured as a bomb, from the remnants of war against Islamic State went off as a vehicle was passing at the eastern axis of Rutba.

Thousands of Islamic State militants as well as Iraqi civilians were killed since the government campaign, backed by paramilitary troops and the coalition was launched in October 2016 to fight the militant group, which declared a self-styled “caliphate” from Mosul in June 2014.

Islamic State continues to launch sporadic attacks across Iraq against troops. Security reports indicate that the militant group still poses threat against stability in the country.
A total of 76 people were killed and 129 others were injured due to acts of terrorism, violence and armed conflicts during the month of June, casualty figures recorded by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).
