3 security personnel wounded as bomb blast occurred after IS attack in Diyala

Diyala (IraqiNews.com) Three security personnel were wounded in a bomb blast, northeast of Diyala, a senior security source from the province said on Sunday.

Speaking on condition of anonymity to Alghad Press, the source said, “a security checkpoint was attacked by Islamic State members near Hussein Memma village in Khanqeen town, northeast of Diyala.”

The attack, according to the source, “was foiled after reinforcements arrived. A bomb then went off, leaving three conscripts wounded. They were taken to hospital for treatment.”

A total of 76 people were killed and 129 others were injured due to acts of terrorism, violence and armed conflicts during the month of June, casualty figures recorded by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).

Diyala was the worst affected Governorate, according to the report, with 52 civilian casualties (16 killed, 36 injured), then came Kirkuk (10 killed, 36 injured) then Baghdad (19 killed and 18 injured).

Islamic State continues to launch sporadic attacks across Iraq against troops. Security reports indicate that the militant group still poses threat against stability in the country. The group still has dormant cells, through which it carries out attacks, across Iraq like it used to do before 2014.
