Policeman killed, two others injured in bomb blast, west of Anbar

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) A policeman was killed, while two others were injured in a bomb blast, from the remnants of war against Islamic State, west of Anbar, a security source from the province said on Saturday.

“A bomb, from the remnants of war against Islamic State, went off as a security forces were in an operation, near the train station in Qaim town, which left a conscript killed and two others seriously injured,” the source told Almaalomah website.

Security troops, according to the source, “blocked all roads leading to the blast scene fearing other blasts.”

“Many regions in the desert of Qaim still endanger military units due to presence of war remnants,” the source added.

A total of 76 people were killed and 129 others were injured due to acts of terrorism, violence and armed conflicts during the month of June, casualty figures recorded by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).

Diyala was the worst affected Governorate, according to the report, with 52 civilian casualties (16 killed, 36 injured), then came Kirkuk (10 killed, 36 injured) then Baghdad (19 killed and 18 injured).

Thousands of militants as well as Iraqi civilians were killed since the government campaign, backed by paramilitary troops and the coalition was launched in October 2016 to fight the militant group, which declared a self-styled “caliphate” from Mosul in June 2014.
