Three Islamic State members, planning for terrorism, arrested, west of Anbar
Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Security troops have arrested three militants, who were planning for terrorist crimes, west of Anbar, a security source from Fallujah police department said on Friday.
Speaking to Almaalomah website, the source said “troops of Fallujah police station attacked several districts as information indicated presence of dormant cells of Islamic State, that were planning for terrorist crimes against security personnel and civilians.”
Troops, according to the source, “transferred the suspects to detention cells, under high security measures, for investigations.”
Earlier today, five Islamic State members, including an Uzbekistani leader, were killed in an operation against an Islamic State pocket in the desert of Qaim town.
Thousands of Islamic State militants as well as Iraqi civilians were killed since the government campaign, backed by paramilitary troops and the coalition was launched in October 2016.
Islamic State continues to launch sporadic attacks across Iraq against troops. Security reports indicate that the militant group still poses threat against stability in the country. The group still has dormant cells, through which it carries out attacks, across Iraq like it used to do before 2014.
A total of 79 Iraqi civilians were killed and another 99 injured in acts of terrorism, violence and armed conflict in Iraq in July 2018, according to casualty figures recorded by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).
