Two IS members wearing badges of paramilitary forces busted in Fallujah

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) – Two Islamic State members disguising themselves as paramilitary forces were arrested Saturday in Fallujah city in Anbar, a security source was quoted as saying.

The source told BasNews website that “intelligence reports led security forces to arrest two Islamic State members inside a house in al-Shohada district in southern Fallujah.”

“The two were wearing badges of the pro-government Popular Mobilization Forces when they were arrested,” the source pointed out, adding that a huge sum of money, government IDs and official documents were seized inside the house.

“The security forces transferred the pair into the detention center in Ramadi for interrogation,” the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, added.

Iraq declared the collapse of Islamic State’s territorial influence in Iraq earlier this month with the recapture of Rawa, a city on Anbar’s western borders with Syria, which was the group’s last bastion in Iraq.

The Islamic State group appeared on the international scene in 2014 when it seized large swathes of territory in Iraq and Syria, declaring the establishment of an Islamic “caliphate” from Mosul city. Later on, the group has become notorious for its brutality, including mass killings, abductions and beheadings, prompting the U.S. to lead an international coalition to destroy it.
