Iraqi court sentences militant to death 3 times over terrorism charges
Baghdad’s central criminal court.
Speaking to Mawazin News, the source said “the Criminal Court in Dhi Qar issued three death sentences against a militant from Anbar province over killing civilians and security personnel as well as planting explosives.”
Last week, the Criminal Court in Baghdad sentenced a man to death by hanging as he was caught supplying the Islamic State group with explosive materials. Earlier this month, the same court sentenced a convict for death over training fighters of Islamic State. Two Islamic State members were sentenced to death, last month, over killing 12 people in Anbar.
Many Islamic State members were detained during liberation battles that freed cities, which were recaptured by the militant group in 2014.
In December, the Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi announced gaining control on all the territories that were captured by Islamic State, since 2014. However, Security reports indicate that the militant group still poses threat against stability in the country. The group still has dormant cells, through which it carries out attacks, across Iraq like it used to do before 2014.
