U.S. Envoy Brett McGurk resigns over Trump’s Decision to withdraw from Syria

(IraqiNews.com) Brett McGurk, the U.S. Special Presidential Envoy to the international coalition fighting the Islamic State group, has resigned over President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw U.S. troops from Syria.
McGurk said in his resignation letter that the ISIS militants were not yet defeated, and that the premature withdrawal of the U.S. forces from Syria would create the conditions that gave rise to the Islamic State.
Last Thursday, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis sent a letter to U.S. President Donald Trump, in which he resigned, following differences with President Trump’s America First policies.
It is noteworthy that Brett H. McGurk was appointed by former U.S. President Barack Obama on 23 October 2015 as Special Presidential Envoy for the international coalition fighting the Islamic State.
