Diyala (IraqiNews.com) – Iraqi security forces on Monday seized an Islamic State arms depot at an under-construction building in the eastern province of Diyala.

“Troops of the Diyala Operations Command found during a military operation in Diyala an under-construction building that was used by Islamic State militants as an arms depot,” Alghad Press news website quoted the Security Media Center as saying in a statement,

The troops found two firearms and ammunition in the building, added the statement.

In January 2015, Iraqi forces announced liberation of Diyala province from Islamic State extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.

The province has seen months of fighting between Iraqi troops and IS militants especially in the Jalawla and Saadiyah areas in the province’s north and areas near the town of Muqdadiyah.
