Iraqi president meets Jordanian king on boosting bilateral relations
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraqi President Barham Salih held on Monday talks with Jordanian King Abdullah II in Baghdad on means of promoting relations between the two countries.
Welcoming the king as a great guest of Iraq, Salih said Iraq highly values the landmark trip, which, he said, will help open wider scopes for cooperation.
According to Petra News, the two sides stressed the deeply-rooted and historic ties between Amman and Baghdad, and reiterated their keenness on enhancing cooperation in all fields to serve the two countries’ interests.
The Jordanian king expressed his satisfaction with the visit and expressed his pride in the solid relations, pledging that Jordan will stand by Iraq to preserve the country’s security and stability and fulfill the aspirations of the Iraqi people for further progress and prosperity.
The talks also tackled the current regional developments, with the two leaders agreeing to continue coordination and consultation on the various issues.
They also stressed the need to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis that would preserve the unity of the country and its people, and also discussed efforts to combat terrorism and extremism within a holistic strategy.
