Bomb blast kills two Iraqi civilians in Anbar province
Anbar (IraqiNews.com) – Two Iraqi civilians were killed on Tuesday in a bomb blast in Fallujah city in the western province of Anbar, a security source was quoted as saying.
Speaking to Almaalomah news website, the source said that a roadside bomb left by Islamic State militants went off when a car carrying civilians was passing by al-Nuaimiya district in southern Fallujah.
The explosion left two civilians killed and two others wounded, the source added, noting that the security forces sealed off the blast site and started to search for other explosives at the scene.
Violence in the country has surged further with the emergence of Islamic State extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.
The surge in violence between armed groups and government forces has resulted in over five million internally displaced persons across Iraq and left more than 11 million in need of humanitarian assistance, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
