Iraqi airstrike destroys two Islamic State armored vehicles in Anbar
Anbar (IraqiNews.com) – An Iraqi security source has said that two Islamic State armored vehicles have been destroyed during an air raid in the western province of Anbar.
Speaking to Almaalomah news website on Sunday, the source said that the Iraqi Air Force targeted two armored vehicles that were planned to be used by Islamic State militants in attacking a military force in the desert of Kabisa city in the Hīt district of Anbar.
“The warplanes managed to destroy the two vehicles completely and killed all Islamic State terrorists at the scene,” the source said, adding that intensified security measures have been taken to thwart any plot by Islamic State to attack security forces and citizens in Anbar province.
Iraq declared the collapse of Islamic State’s territorial influence in Iraq in November 2017 with the recapture of Rawa, a city on Anbar’s western borders with Syria, which was the group’s last bastion in Iraq.
However, the militant group continues to launch sporadic attacks against troops with security reports warning that the militant group still poses a threat against stability in the country.
