Iraqi president back home after attending Arab summit in Tunisia
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraqi President Barham Salih Sisi returned home on Monday following his participation in the 30th Arab League Summit in Tunisia.
“On the fringe of the summit, Salih met with a number of kings and leaders of brotherly countries, in addition to the UN secretary general and the European Union foreign policy chief,” Alghad Press quoted the Iraqi presidency as saying.
Addressing the summit, which was held in Tunisia on Sunday, Salih called for a radical treatment of terrorism and extremism in the Arab world.
“Iraq’s military victory in the war against Islamic State should be followed by efforts to reconstruct the liberated areas to help the displaced families return to their homes,” he said.
He urged action to promote the values of mutual understanding in the face of challenges.
“Iraq is looking forward to playing a promising role in the region,” the president said, stressing that his country backs all efforts that entrench peace and development in the Arab world.
