Iraqi merchant wounded in Diyala bomb blast — source
Diyala (IraqiNews.com) – An Iraqi merchant was wounded Wednesday in a bomb blast in the eastern province of Diyala, a security source was quoted as saying.
“A sticky bomb fixed into a vegetable cart went off in Khanaqin district in Diyala, leaving a merchant dead,” the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Baghdad Today news website.
“The security forces rushed to the blast site and moved the wounded into nearby hospital for treatment,” the source added.
Violence in the country has surged further with the emergence of Islamic State extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.
The surge in violence between armed groups and government forces has resulted in over five million internally displaced persons across Iraq and left more than 11 million in need of humanitarian assistance, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
