Two Iraqi farmers killed in bomb blast in Nineveh
Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) – Two Iraqi farmers were killed and three others wounded in a bomb explosion in Nineveh province, a security source said as the country still witnesses almost daily bomb attacks despite the defeat of Islamic State terrorists.
Speaking to Al-Ahd News, the source said that an explosive charge went off today afternoon at an agricultural land in Tal Afar district, west of Mosul, leaving two farmers dead and three others wounded.
“The bomb was placed by Islamic State militants during their capture of Mosul city,” added the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Violence in the country has surged further with the emergence of Islamic State extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.
The surge in violence between armed groups and government forces has resulted in over five million internally displaced persons across Iraq and left more than 11 million in need of humanitarian assistance, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
