Bomb attack kills five Iraqi civilians in Nineveh
Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) – At least 13 Iraqi civilians were killed and wounded Sunday in a bomb explosion in Nineveh province, Iraqi police said.
“A booby-trapped vehicle exploded today, afternoon, near a marketplace in Rabia district in Mosul, leaving five people dead,” Glgamesh quoted the Security Media Cell as saying in a press statement.
“The explosion left eight others wounded,” the statement read. The wounded have been rushed to hospital.
Violence in the country has surged further with the emergence of Islamic State extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.
The surge in violence between armed groups and government forces has resulted in over five million internally displaced persons across Iraq and left more than 11 million in need of humanitarian assistance, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
