5 security men killed, wounded in grenade attack in Baghdad
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – An Iraqi security man was killed and four others were wounded after a criminal hurled a grenade at them in Baghdad, a security source was quoted as saying.
“A security force launched a campaign to arrest a dangerous criminal in the Hussainiat al-Ma’amel area, northeast of Baghdad,” the source told Alghad Press on Tuesday.
“The criminal hurled a grenade at the troops once they approached him, leaving a security man dead and four others wounded,” the source added.
Violence in the country has surged further with the emergence of Islamic State extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.
The surge in violence between armed groups and government forces has resulted in over five million internally displaced persons across Iraq and left more than 11 million in need of humanitarian assistance, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
