Iraqi premier reaffirms support for Palestinian people, rejection of settlement policy
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi reiterated on Monday that Iraq’s supportive stance of the Palestinian people is unshakable.
Speaking at a joint press conference with his Palestinian counterpart Mohammad Shtayyeh, Abdul Mahdi stressed that his country is “totally rejecting any settlement project in the region,” adding that Iraq will continue to provide all possible support for the Palestinian people.
Speaking about the U.S.-led so-called deal of the century, Abdul Mahdi said that it has been “bravely encountered” at the Peace to Prosperity workshop, which was hosted by Bahrain last month to discuss the economic plan. “Those who wanted to pass it [the deal] are now in doubt about the possibility of bringing it into force.”
He added that his meeting with the Palestinian premier tackled means of promoting bilateral cooperation in the fields of industry, economy and trade.
“The issue of the Palestinian people is our main cause and we stand by them, in whatever circumstances,” he said.
Shtayyeh, meanwhile, said that “the unity of Iraq is necessary, not only for Palestine, but also for all Arab countries.”
He also praised efforts exerted by Iraq to solve regional crises.
