Diyala (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi army announced on Wednesday that four members of the Islamic State terrorist group were killed in the eastern province of Diyala.

In a press release carried by the Arabic-language Alghad Press, the Iraqi Security Media cell said that a joint military force stormed an Islamic State hotbed in the Kelal valley, 90km northeast of Baqubah, as part of the third phase of the “Victory Will” operation.

“The troops managed to destroy the hotbed completely, killing four Islamic State terrorists inside,” added the statement.

In January 2015, Iraqi forces announced liberation of Diyala province from Islamic State extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.

The province has seen months of fighting between Iraqi troops and IS militants especially in the Jalawla and Saadiyah areas in the province’s north and areas near the town of Muqdadiyah.
